Having trouble with your self-guided tour?
Use the FAQs below to solve the most common issues with audio and device settings. Start at the top and work your way down if the problem continues. Most common: Make sure you are not using a Privacy-first browser like Brave or Firefox. These can interfere significantly with functionality.
I don’t hear any audio from the tour
Try these steps first:
-
Check your volume
Make sure your device volume is turned up and not muted. If you’re using physical volume buttons, press them while audio should be playing. -
Confirm the correct output
If you’re connected to Bluetooth headphones, speakers, or a car stereo, ensure they’re on and connected, or disconnect them to use your phone’s speaker. -
Disable Silent / Do Not Disturb
Turn off Silent or Do Not Disturb (Focus mode) on your device. Some devices silence media audio when these modes are enabled. -
Check browser tabs
Make sure the tab with the Ivey tour is active and not muted (look for a small speaker icon in the tab bar).
If you still don’t hear anything, see the “Device or browser settings might be blocking audio” section below.
I can’t find the text-to-speech (TTS) / “Read aloud” option
The exact steps depend on your device, but here are the most common ways to enable text-to-speech or “read aloud”:
-
On iPhone / iPad (iOS)
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Selection or Speak Screen.
- In the tour, select the text you want and choose Speak, or swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to read the whole page.
-
On Android
- Open Settings → Accessibility.
- Look for Select to Speak or Text-to-speech output.
- Enable it, then tap the on-screen icon to have text read aloud.
-
On laptop / desktop browsers
- Many browsers have built-in Read Aloud / Reader modes in the address bar or menu.
- You can also use screen readers such as VoiceOver (macOS) or Narrator (Windows).
Once TTS is enabled, you can use it alongside the self-guided tour for a fully hands-free experience.
Device or browser settings might be blocking audio
Some devices and browsers block audio or notifications unless certain settings are enabled:
-
Check browser site settingsImportant
- Tap the lock icon in your browser’s address bar.
- Look for Sound or Media and make sure it’s set to Allow.
- Refresh the page after changing settings.
-
Allow autoplay (if available)
- Some browsers block media from playing automatically. In browser settings, search for “autoplay” and set it to allow audio on this site.
-
Turn off system-wide Do Not Disturb
- Disable Focus / Do Not Disturb modes in your device’s Control Center or Settings.
- Make sure Media or App sounds are not being filtered out.
-
Try a different browser
- If possible, open the Ivey tour in another browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, etc.).
I’m using headphones or Bluetooth and things sound wrong
Try these steps if you’re using headphones, earbuds, or a car connection:
- Disconnect and reconnect your Bluetooth device, then restart playback.
- Check that audio balance (left/right) in your accessibility settings is centered.
- If audio is very quiet, disconnect Bluetooth and play through the phone’s speaker to see if the volume returns to normal.
I’ve tried everything and it still doesn’t work
If the issue is still happening:
- Completely close your browser, then reopen it and return to the tour link.
- Restart your device when possible.
- Return to the main tour page and use the chat assistant to describe the issue (device type, browser, and what you’ve already tried).
